Flagging your front door, placed on your walkway, or sitting regally on a porch, beautiful holiday urns are showstoppers. This year, create your own beautiful urn insert for your outdoor space with just a few materials and tips from Devon Phair of Bradford Greenhouses.

You’ll need floral foam, a plastic container, ribbon, florist wire, a knife, scissors and cutters, as well as waterproof tape, various sticks or twigs for height, assorted Christmas greens, berries, pine cones and your bow.

Begin by placing the foam in a large tub of water, letting it soak down and immerse completely.

When the foam is completely saturated, cut it to fit inside the containerand strap it down using your waterproof tape.

Start by inserting the sticks into the foam first, placing them in the centre. Next, add your greenery, by starting at the base and working around to establish your diameter, and then work upwards. Phair suggests adding your pine first, then balsam, and finishing with the cedar.

When you have reached your desired thickness of greenery, add your decorative touches, including holly berries, pine cones and ribbon.
