“We have a philosophy of being a one stop shop,” explains Pamela Anderson, clinical nurse at the Breast Health Centre at Markham Stouffville Hospital. When your family doctor sends a referral to Breast Health, Pamela can schedule a mammogram, an ultrasound, a core biopsy, as well as a consultation for a radiologist and surgeon.

To qualify for treatment at the Breast Health Centre at Markham Stouffville Hospital, you need a referral from your family physician.

“Diagnostic imagining plays a huge role in the Breast Health Centre because the radiologist is watching the imaging done in live time and can report the results of your tests to the surgeon on the same day,” says Pamela. “When you leave Breast Health, you actually know what the imaging has said.”

If you’ve been referred to the Breast Health Centre and your case is urgent, Pamela says you’ll be seen within five days. If it’s not as urgent, you’ll be seen as soon as possible and will be called by an administration staff who will tell you what to expect during your appointment.

To continue to provide exceptional care, Markham Stouffville Hospital is expanding to meet the needs of the growing community. . The expansion includes the Breast Health Centre and the new Cancer Centre.

“It’s a really exciting time for growth for us,” says Pauline Brillinger, Clinical Manager, and Breast Health & Oncology.

CIBC Celebration of Hope is an annual luncheon that brings the community together to celebrate and raise awareness of breast and other cancers at Markham Stouffville Hospital.
