Have a spooktacular time making easy Halloween crafts using an assortment of Elmer’s products and items from your craft cupboard.
“Pencil toppers are a fun craft to make for any season,” says Elmer’s Canada product manager Alicia Buter. She puts a spooky twist on this craft by making Halloween-inspired characters including a bat, Frankenstein monster, witch, ghost and jack-o-lantern using foam sheets.
Start by drawing your shapes on paper to create a template. Cut out the shapes, place them on the foam sheet and trace around them. Cut out the foam shapes, and then assembling all the pieces you need to decorate it. To make the jack-o-lantern, Buter cuts out a green leaf and a jack-o-lantern mouth. She chooses jiggly eyes and uses a chenille stem to hold the character onto the pencil. All the pieces are then glued together using tacky glue and once dry, “Now you can slide your pencil into place and now you have a pencil topper.”
Some other great crafts you can make, using Elmer’s products, for Halloween are spooky masks. Perfect for your costume, or to dress up your pumpkins, masks are easy to make using foam, glitter, jewels, and a little bit of glue.
The first step is to trace out your shape onto paper, then onto foam so you can cut it out. Then decorate the mask with glitter, feathers and jewels to make your character. “You can also layer the foam on top of each other so that it adds dimension to your mask.”
Use stretch lace to tie to the mask so you can wear it or hang it for great Halloween décor.
