Top looks for fall fashion

With each new season comes a whole new set of fashion rules. All black outfits may be back in style, but don’t forget to add a splash of colour with shades of cream, mint and peach.
Black is making a comeback, says Julie Hanning, fashion director at Scarborough Town Centre, but remember to add different textures and layers. A black, silk jacket with a lapel from H&M over top a black turtle neck is a great combination. To finish the outfit, Hanning recommends a pair of tight suede leggings from Danier Leather’s higher end line called Blink. A pair of suede black booties finishes the outfit. Another version of the all black outfit is a slimming black skirt topped with a leather jacket, and don’t forget the bootie, says Hanning which is really big this fall.
To add a bit of flair, Hanning recommends accessories. Adding a chocker or decorative pin from Swarovski Crystals really pops when layered on a black outfit. For colour, pastels like peach, mint, and cream are really big this year and look for shirts with lace, which really add a nice contract to the black ensemble.
Following the texture trend, one of Hanning’s favourtie trends is lavish featuring jewel tones and different textures. “It’s so lush and beautiful,” says Hanning about a plum jacket with removable faux fur collar from the Bay. Top it off with a Ralph Lauren blouse and you have a very elegant look.
You’ll also notice a lot of gold sparkle this season. From gold buttons on a navy blue blazer from Club Monaco to a vest from Forever 21 with gold beading to a sparkly gold skirt from H&M, don’t be afraid to add some glitter to your outfits.
Another hot trends is colour blocking, admits Hanning. To start, pick out your colour block piece, like a colourful blouse. Then pick out the colours to complement the blouse, like a red blazer from Only by 507 and a pair of yellow skinny Rockin Republic denim from 507. Once combined, the whole outfit is balance with the colour block look.
Another approach to colour block an outfit is to choose an accessory like a scarf and then choose items to accentuate the colours within the scarf. For example, a pleated green skirt with an oversized knit sweater cinched at the waist with a wide belt tie the green and browns from the scarf beautifully.
