The addition of plants, food and a place to bathe attracts birds to any garden
A beautiful garden will attract birds, but there are some tips that can help you attract the exact birds you want to see.
According to Brian of Barrie’s Bradford Greenhouses, smaller birds “will want to build their nest where they’re protected from the elements.” To attract these birds, plant a pine tree. It’s the perfect tree for birds to build a nest and “not even be seen once they’re in there.”
Planting a crabapple tree is another great addition to a beautiful garden. It provides the birds with flowers in the spring, berries in the fall and lots of little pieces of twigs they can use to build their nest out of.
An obelisk in the garden is a great place to plant a climbing vine, such as a honeysuckle, which blooms beautiful flowers, the scent of which attracts the birds, while the flowers themselves feed them.
“And then another lovely addition to any garden are flowering shrubs,” says Brian. The weigela is the perfect choice because it can be planted in either a sunny or semi-shade garden.
Once you’ve attracted your desired birds to your garden, provide them a place to drink, bathe and cool themselves with a bird bath. The perfect addition to any bird-friendly garden, a bird bath is complemented by a bird feeder, to which you can add certain foods to attract different birds.
