There
are times when our worldly goods are in limbo. They are moved out of one home
and have no place to go. Whether it’s due to inconvenient closing dates, construction
delays affecting a new home, extended travel or downsizing, there’s sometimes a
need for secure storage options.
Atlas
Van Lines Canada, a well-known relocation company, is also a storage company, the two
services often going hand-in-hand. Determining storage needs is part of the
in-home survey process. An Atlas move coordinator will discuss timing, storage
needs and duration. Storage could be required locally or across the country.
“Chances
are that where you are going, we have an Atlas agent with an approved
warehouse,” suggests Bob Clark, president of Atlas Canada.
For long-distance moves, items can be loaded into an Atlas container which is then
transported and stored for up to 60 days. If storage is required beyond 60
days, items are moved into a climate-controlled warehouse and stored in secure
vaults.
Clark
advises that items stored by Atlas are properly protected. There are special
racks for couches and storage designed especially for rugs that will not
tolerate being folded up in a vault.
“Everything
is protected in a professional manner and it is stored in a way that we have
determined over years of experience that is going to be best for the goods,” he
explains, adding that it’s important to check out the facility so that you know
your property will be cared for well.
Items
being moved and stored should be covered with replacement value transit protection which
is similar to insurance that provides replacement value in the event of a
mishap. If purchased, this coverage would last for 60 days and after that point, warehouse protection
would become necessary.
