Primary Care Paramedic: Exciting, Rewarding, and Life-Saving

If the excitement of facing emergency situations and the reward of saving lives fits your idea of an ideal career, then you could be a candidate for the Primary Care Paramedic program at Canadian Therapeutic College.

It was definitely a fit for Anthony Ferrante, a graduate of the program who is now working for a municipal ambulance service providing first level pre-hospital care.

"It’s the best job in the world," Ferrante states with confidence.

While Ferrante chose to work for an ambulance service, graduates are also qualified for careers in other emergency services and in-patient and on-site first aid services at sport and recreational facilities, provincial and international and industrial first aid departments requiring EMS staff.

Ferrante describes his career with the ambulance service as both fun and rewarding. His instructors provided a vivid picture of exactly what the job entails by relating their experiences on the road. An instructor would present the class with an actual situation that he faced on his last shift and help the students to work through it.

Not only do students have the advantage of this kind of insight, they also learn the most current pre-hospital care standards and practices. Ferrante calls it a very intensive program.

In terms of landing that ideal job, Ferrante has nothing but praise for the college’s coaching on that front.

"They help you get your foot in the door," he says.

As for the tests and interviews, Ferrante knows that’s where all of the hard work and studying really pays off. He advises that a disciplined student will be successful.
He obviously took his own advice, landing multiple job offers that allowed him to choose the ideal fit.
