Once you’ve made the decision to sell your home, you’d like the journey to be as short and profitable as possible. A home stager can set you on the right path, finessing your “home sweet home” into a “home sold home”.
“I look at your home as a potential buyer would,” explains home stager Beth Thomas adding that a stager creates illusions and moods.
Home staging begins with a consultation during which a home stager like Beth Thomas of Turn Key Homes will go from room-to-room to assess how the home currently presents itself. This provides Thomas with the information necessary to complete a “Room Ready Handbook” with detailed information including furniture placement, what should be removed and repaired as well as what should be brought into the home to add to its potential.
You can do-it-yourself or hire Turn Key to do the work. Thomas says many clients don’t have the time to work through all of the items identified in the handbook themselves. It’s been her experience that a busy lifestyle can’t accommodate time to pack, de-clutter, paint, remove wallpaper and everything else on a home staging “to do” the list.
“We take that stress away from you and have it done in a matter of days,” explains the home stager who stresses that completing the work quickly will translate into a quick sale.
Thomas admits that revamping a home for the real estate market can be an emotional journey, especially when it comes to removing your personality from the home.
“Everybody loves their home. They’ve spent maybe years decorating it, putting in their own personal touch and once they make that decision to sell they need to remove that from the house and make it as marketable (as possible) to as many people as possible,” she says.
She encourages clients to create a home that other people can “fall in love” with and make their own so that the sellers can get on with their life. A staged home is more likely to sell quickly as it will appeal to a broader range of buyers. By completing all of those little jobs and touch-ups, the staging process helps sellers achieve the best price for their property as well.
“This could be your biggest investment ever and you want as much money out of that house as you can get,” advises Thomas. She suggests that buyers are looking for a turn key property that has had all of the fix-ups completed and is fresh and ready for occupancy.
