Mark graduated from Mohawk College of Applied Arts and Technology in 1977 with a diploma in Architectural Technology. Upon graduating, Mark was hired on as a Project Coordinator for Aiton Power Ltd, a large contracting company that built power station components, water treatment and sewage treatment facilities. At Aiton Power Ltd, Mark worked on several design and construction projects before joining Royal Botanical Gardens in 1984 as the Superintendent – Buildings and Equipment.

In 1995 Mark became the Acting Director of Royal Botanical Gardens for a period of one year. His role at Royal Botanical Gardens continued to expand and by 2000 Mark became Director- Physical Plant and Operations. In this position, Mark was responsible for the management of all aspects of sustenance of RBG’s physical plant and its fleet of vehicles and equipment. In addition to this, Mark’s responsibilities also included asset management; master planning; design and construction / project management for a variety of on-going capital works; revenue generation in reference to facility and property rentals and food services; property matters; fund development in regard to capital grant applications and implementation; information technology; security / communication equipment; and other related activities.

On January 5, 2009 Mark was appointed to Chief Executive Officer. In his spare time, Mark enjoys skiing, camping, golfing, and gardening. He resides in Stoney Creek, Ontario with wife Kathy and has two great kids.
