Sandra Thomas has one of those jobs that is difficult to explain to those who ask what she does for a living. She’s officially the office manager at The Highlands, a community centre at Residences at Lochness Links but her duties generally take her out of the office and into the culture of the centre.

A native of the Niagara area, Thomas provides orientation to new residents of the adult community, that includes a tour of the facility and its amenities as well as insight into local shopping and services available in the community beyond. For existing residents she’s a resource, assisting them with their needs and problem solving. She also handles property management, arranges maintenance and tests the centre’s pool each day. She even steps in to show the model homes on occasion.

In addition to the pool, the centre has a banquet facility as well as a smaller meeting room that she books. When residents’ committees need to promote their events, Thomas makes sure the word gets out. She’s been getting busier with booking the banquet area for residents who want to hold private gatherings and parties there. She believes that this is popular with homeowners since many have moved some distance from where they lived previously and like to entertain large groups of family and friends at one time.

Although her previous work experience has not been running a facility such as Highland’s Residents’ Association Centre, past jobs have equipped her with management skills and as well as experience as in customer relations. After running her own business, Thomas was district manager for a women’s fitness centre franchise.

She has a fond association with the Niagara area and her new job allows her to promote its many benefits to home buyers at Ballantry’s Residences at Lochness Links.
