Before getting involved with the DNA Personal Alarm, Mark Hetherman spent 30 years in a corporate business career and during this time held Executive level marketing and management positions with highly regarded companies that include Rogers Communication and Willis Group of Companies.

Hetherman also takes great pride in serving his community by participating in many charitable and fund raising events that included raising more than $10,000 for the Canadian Diabetes Association in 2006 and 2007. Since his teenager years he has volunteered with minor hockey, and minor baseball leagues as coach and executive member.

As the father of four, three of whom are girls, he has a protective frame of mind.

It was Hetherman’s niece Amanda who founded the DNA Personal Alarm and he is very proud of her. She faced the fears of potential assault on her university campus when she arrived for her first year as several assaults on female students had occurred. Rather than succumb to that fear she decided to do something about it.

After doing a lot of research she found that more than half of the women who are assaulted actually do not report the assault. She discovered that it was the fear of authorities taking his word against hers that scared off most women from reporting. She determined that she must find a safety product that would not only protect her and other women but would also assist police in charging these men with their crime.

She searched and searched and finally found herself talking with a company in Britain about the DNA Personal Alarm. She has negotiated a North American agreement with them.
