When Paul Hammond acts as your real estate agent, it’s a relationship he intends to continue, even if his services aren’t required again for many years.

Relationships are one of the keys to his success. Building trust and getting to know the client are extremely important according to the RE/MAX Escarpment Realty Inc. agent. It’s a sure way to get referrals, something he values and relies upon in his profession.

He keeps in touch with clients through newsletters, newspaper advertising, providing calendars each year, sending cards and even dropping by occasionally. When discussions with friends reveal that they’re looking for an agent, he’s hoping his name comes up and that he is recommended based on past positive experiences.

His wife of 34 years, Donna Hammond, also marries into his business. As the franchise owner of the Merry Maids in Burlington, her contact with homeowners generates referrals just as his contacts open doors to her housecleaning business.

In his daily life, Hammond is sure to bring up the fact that he’s a real estate agent, in conversations, in the hope of connecting with someone in the market to buy or sell a home, but, has not yet found an agent. It’s part of a strategy developed by a California RE/MAX agent and this Buffini System of generating referrals is named after him.

Hammond admits that he seems to attract first-time buyers. He ventures that it could be his maturity and prior years of business experience that leads young homebuyers to trust him with this major life event. During an initial meeting he gets to know the homebuyers, their wants, their wish list and “must haves”. He also explores their status as homebuyers, whether they are pre-approved for a mortgage and what their down-payment plans include.

Hammond’s entry into a career in real estate came after many other jobs. He continued in sales and marketing with two different commercial/industrial insulation manufacturing companies then took the opportunity to purchase his own franchise business called ServiceMASTER of Burlington. Paul was then in the business of dealing with homeowners whose property had suffered fire and water damage.

During the 14 years of owning the company, Hammond would often find himself sitting with real estate agents and dealing with relocating clients whose homes were severely damaged. He also gained experience in redesigning homes that needed extensive repair and renovation and took some courses to hone his skills including Home Staging(ASP). As a real estate agent, he’s putting those skills to good use for all his clients.

Networking is something that Hammond values. The Burlington native is a founding member of Business Networking International ‘s Burlington chapter called “Integrity Connections”. It’s a business referral organization that holds weekly breakfast meetings and facilitates referrals between businesses.

The father of two sons, now in their 20s, Hammond passed on his passion for football to them. As rep player and an associate coach of the Waterdown High School squad, he went on to coach his boys who both continued their football careers into their post-secondary education. For six years he was also head coach of the Wentworth Minor Panthers of the Ontario Varsity Football League. He was also involved in Boy Scouts as a leader.

He and his wife are now empty nesters and Hammond continues to create trust, commitment and dedication with new clients and nurture the relationships he has with long-term clients.
