‘Tis the season, and what better way to dress up your home for the holidays then a trip to Connon Nurseries. Filled with great decorating ideas, and garden gifts, this popular garden centre is ready to help customers with their holiday plans.
The store is a showcase for the latest colour trends for wreaths, swags and ornaments– this year it’s silver and sparkly – and offers a large inventory of natural greenery to complement any décor. And the boughs and living greenery from outside can be brought inside.
“It’s a great way to work the outdoors to the inside. It’s nice and fresh and smells wonderful.” said Cathy Morrison of Connon Nurseries. “You can use your greenery on swags, on your mantles, and in wreaths, but you may not want to bring them in too soon because they can dry out, so wait until the second week of December.”
The poinsettia is still the favourite holiday plant and Connon’s is decked out with thousands of them, ranging in colour from red and white, the two most popular colours, to pink, burgundy, and multi-colour poinsettias that are growing more popular each year.
“There is a burgundy that’s been out for the last few years which is absolutely gorgeous and people love that as well,” Morrison said. “Poinsettias can be dressed up for the holiday season by adding living boughs, pine and cedar and some sparkly ting.”
Trends for outdoor decorating include traditional outdoor arrangements for urns and pots. Connon offers them in three ways: as a base so customers can design their own; fully customized for a customer; and decorated and ready to go. Kissing balls are fun to have and wreaths, swags and roping can be added to entrance ways.
And don’t forget the tree. Connon, known for its trees, has a large selection of Balsam Fir, Frasier Fir and some Scotch Pine. “We hang our trees from the greenhouse roof, and they fall beautifully so you know the shape you’re getting. Spin the trees as you walk through our Christmas tree forest!”
For the gardener on your gift list, there is a wide selection of garden gifts, gift certificates, and ideas to suit any budget.
