Moving your household is no easy task. Moving a long distance
is even harder. There’s so much to arrange and coordinate and on top of that,
there’s the anxiety of relocating far from the place you had been calling home.
“There’s a lot more
to consider than just the moving process. It’s a very anxious time for individuals
as well as the family. It’s not like moving locally within a community, you’re
moving to another community.”
Coping with all of the unknowns adds to the stress. One way
to limit stress is to call on the help of professional movers. Bob Clark,
president of Atlas Van Lines Canada advises that call be made as soon as
possible. The more time allowed for planning, the smoother the move.
That initial phone call will connect customers with one of
the company’s personal move coordinators. The next step will bring the
coordinator to the customer’s home for an in-home survey. The coordinator will
assess the customer’s needs, find out what the customer wants at the end of the
process and arrange for the necessary services to meet those expectations. It’s
also a chance to bring budget in line with required services. For example, a
customer could opt to have Atlas pack some of their more delicate items,
leaving other packing for themselves.
According to Clark, “It’s like planning a wedding. It’s a
big event. It happens seldom in a person’s life and it creates a lot of
anxiety.”
The move coordinator makes sure everything gets done. Clark
contends that there’s value in having someone there for you when there are
questions or concerns. The coordinator stays with a customer throughout the
process and can be easily be contacted by email or a toll-free phone number. No
matter how far the move, Atlas is there from door-to-door.
“We’re here to sincerely help you and your family have a
successful, enjoyable, moving experience,” says the company president.
The cost of moves of more than 150 miles is based on weight.
When the Atlas coordinator estimates the price it is based on what is in the
home. It’s important for the client to indicate which items are actually being
moved. Clark explains that if the situation changes, and items are to be added
or removed from the moving list, the mover needs to be informed so that the
price can be adjusted accordingly. The actual price is a combination of weight
of the load and the distance it is being transported.
Clark suggests that transit or cargo protection is “a very good idea” especially if all of your
belongings are travelling across the country. No one wants to think that fire
or other misadventure could occur during the move but just in case it’s wise to
have coverage for the replacement value of the goods.
