You’ve found a new home, the moving van has been booked and
now it comes down to the huge task of packing. Pretty much everything you own
needs to be transferred, item by item, into a bunch of boxes.
Wouldn’t it be great to have professionals pack up your
household? Depending on your budget, you can hire professional packers to do it
all or just part of the job.
“It starts in the
planning process – it’s very critical for us, as our service to you, to have an
in-home survey performed in order to evaluate what the packing needs are,”
explains Bob Clark, president of Atlas Van Lines Canada.
According to Clark, one of the values of the in-home survey
is that, based on a customer’s budget, they can get some advice. He suggests
that a customer could pay for a partial pack. “We could pack the breakable
items, you could pack the non-breakable items.”
He recommends trusting high value goods to the
professionals. Special packing materials, boxes and crates along with expert
techniques, help protect collectibles, antiques, art and other valuables.
Professional movers come with specialized boxes that ensure items get delivered
in one piece.
“Our boxes are specially designed for the inventory that you
have in your house that needs to be packed,” the company president says.
Wardrobe cartons accommodate clothing on hangers so that
when they are unpacked, they don’t require ironing. China barrels are another
example of specially designed containers. They are extremely study in order to
handle the weight of the dishes which are packed with the heaviest items on the
bottom. Serving pieces, plates, bowls, cups and stemware all arrive safely at
the customer’s new home.
Books get heavy as they accumulate in boxes. The idea is not
to put too many in a box. Atlas movers use boxes that are made to handle books
and magazines. Clark explains that some clients have valuable rare editions,
making their protection even more imperative.
Clark suggests that labeling is critical, especially at the
destination when boxes need to be delivered to the corresponding room for
unpacking. The simple step of putting the label on the side of the carton means
they can be read even when the boxes are stacked.
A set-up carton is one of the keys to an organized move.
It’s packed with “things that you want to have on hand immediately at
destination,” says Clark, including parts, remotes, and some
basic items for the kitchen. If a customer’s budget allows and they want the
service, Atlas professionals will unpack at the destination and remove all the
packing material and boxes.
