Part of being a success in any business is sourcing out and
responding to new ideas. Peers are an excellent resource and one that real
estate broker Dan Cooper taps into on a regular basis. He’s part of what he
calls a “master mind group” that brings together top-performing real estate
agents from across the GTA.
“It’s like a think tank,” explains Cooper
The top agent with Royal LePage meets with successful agents
from other large real estate companies and also from private and independent
companies. The uniting thread is success in the field.
“We’re bringing the
best of the best together as a collective group to discuss ideas and to keep us
on the cutting edge of technology, also the strategy, business practices,
ethics, really everything that’s involved in running a successful business
practice,” explains Cooper.
The need for such a group 10 to 15 years ago might not have
been as vital. As Cooper recalls, real estate agents basically placed an ad in
the newspaper, and put a sign on the lawn.
“As more and more technology becomes available, more and
more is expected of us as agents,” he suggests. “If you look at any of the top
producing agents across the nation, they’re working with teams, administration,
marketing departments, and agents working specifically with buyers.”
He comments that the Internet has changed things. The
award-winning broker’s company has six to 10 sites for its marketing.
“We’re all at the top of our game to a certain degree,” says
Cooper of his fellow think tank members. At meetings they share “the absolutely
best ideas” and take information away
and implement concepts that may benefit his business. Since group members
practice in different geographic areas, “there really is not a competition
problem”, he explains.
Cooper characterizes himself and his counterparts as very “type
A people”, who are passionate about the business.
According to Cooper, “It’s all about the quality and not the
quantity. We aspire to have the best campaigns available to you.”
