Car pooling is a great way to reduce air
pollution, conserve energy and decrease traffic congestion.
To make it easier, car poolers can get into
the zone with Smart Commute’s Carpool Zone, a free online service that matches
employees within the same company or with others within the “zone”, explains Jeff
Reid, Senior Transportation Planner with Halton Region.
“In just five years, Carpool Zone
users have saved over 24,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions; which is 200
tonnes a month and takes 15000 cars off the road across the GTA,” he reports.
The drive to work was long and boring for
Michael DeDonato before he got into the zone and was matched with Rachel Salisbury.
Michael, a Web Information Specialist with Halton Region, now has company on
his drive, is saving money and there is one less car on the road. Rachel, who
is a Web Content Administrator with the Region, discovered that there was no
need for her to be concerned about scheduling. The Carpool Zone makes it easy
and now “it’s the best way to travel”.
