If we had x-ray vision, we could see the structure of our home that is hidden behind the drywall. If you buy a home built by Starward Homes, you will get a chance to see the home’s bones and check out the structure before the drywall goes on.
The pre-drywall walk through is an opportunity to make sure construction is going as planned and all of the extras have been included, says Nicole Layman of Starward Homes. There is a check list to review as well and she advises homeowners to review the paperwork the night before to be fully prepared for the inspection.
“Basically they see that we have built their house correctly for them,” she explains. If there is a problem, it can be corrected. “We don’t have to rip and tear drywall. When it is all open like this, anything is possible.”
If a homeowner were to notice that the cable connection wasn’t where it should be or any of the pot lights were in the wrong position, those problems could be corrected. If at this stage it was decided that more pot lights were in order, that can be done as well. Walls can even be shortened or lengthened for example, Layman suggests.
“There is a process to follow,” says Layman “At this point the homebuyer will be dealing mainly with the décor studio representatives, the customer care rep and the sales rep also.” She explains that any questions and concerns will be relayed through them.
Starward Homes homebuyer Mike Goodridge says of the pre-drywall orientation, “I found it very, very helpful. I had some concerns about where certain plugs and outlets were going to be and my mind is at ease now.”
His wife, Janet Cook agrees, noting that in the beginning stages you have everything down on paper. The orientation “refreshes your memory and it gives you a chance to change the small things.”
“It lets you walk away knowing you’ve left your house in the right hands.”
