It’s the North American Car of the Year, the Canadian Car of the Year and was named Best New Luxury Car Under $50,000 by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC). What makes the Hyundai Genesis sedan worthy of such accolades?
According to Chris Varteressian, new car sales manager at Hyundai of Oakville, it’s a luxury car that “has a lot of value for the dollar and today’s consumer wants the greatest amount of features for the least amount of money”.

One of those standard features is the navigation system that isn’t offered in all models. The Genesis sedan acts like a sportier model with performance features that might not be expected in a car of its class. Rear wheel drive gives the sedan superior handling reminiscent of a sports coupe. Adding to the Genesis sedan’s performance rating are four-wheel disc brakes, 17” aluminum alloy wheels, six-speed automatic transmission and 3.8L V6, 290 horsepower engine. An eight-cylinder engine is an option that Varteressian says many customers choose.

“There are a lot of accessories you can add after the fact,” says the new car sales manager.

The list includes spoilers, window guards and mud guards to protect the vehicle and tinted windows for privacy. The luxury car comes equipped with climate controlled leather seats that are heated for winter weather and cooled for those hot summer days.

Each of the seven external colours has a different interior colour to complement it, accessorized with wood grain trim. A great looking luxury automobile needs to sound great as well and the Genesis sedan does, thanks to the AM/FM/XM/MP3 with 6-disc CD player facilitated by seven speakers. There’s also iPod and USB/auxiliary audio input.

On the outside, the automatic front lighting system enables the headlamps to automatically swivel for better visibility when cornering. Among the exterior features are fog lights, front windshield de-icer, automatic light control and remote control heated exterior mirrors with turn signal indicators.

Hyundai’s luxury sedan and the auto maker’s other vehicles are being well received even in a sluggish economy, according to Varteressian. He reports that sales are up about 25 per cent and attributes the jump over last year’s sales to the selection of vehicles in the Hyundai line-up.

“In a down market we are thriving. We are bringing the brand to a new level,” Varteressian contends.

The Oakville dealership has a good selection of vehicles, including the new Genesis sedan, available for a test drive.
