“Realtors have a tremendous amount of information available to them that can help the consumer,” says Hammond. “When people want to buy or sell, they really have no indication as to what is available to them in terms of information. That’s when a realtor comes in.”

Realtors have access to information on neighbourhoods, school boards in the area, government offices, local shopping centres and amenities, as well as health care facilities. They can help potential homeowners find the perfect home suited for their family and lifestyle.

A realtor can also help you sell your house for a comparable price to other houses in your neighbourhood. Remax agents have a standard practice where they set the listing price of the home based on comparable sales in the area. The size of the house, the location of the house on the property and street, property size and whether it a backs onto another house or ravine, all these factors help realtors determine the selling price.

“Some people may decide to market their house themselves, but what I provide as a realtor is a huge network of other realtors and companies within the area,” Hammond says. Mortgage lawyers, brokers, moving consultants, painters, carpenters, all these contacts are within reach for Hammond’s clients. “This allows me to provide a bigger package and better service overall to my clients.”

Remax has several websites, which target a global, national, and regional audience to maximize exposure of a client’s home. Hammond also has his own website to list the homes of existing clients.

“My philosophy is that I develop a relationship with my clients, right from the beginning. I start out with a meeting to determine what their wants and desires are. Even after the sale is completed, I still continue to stay in touch with them on a regular basis to make sure they continue to be happy with their home.”
