Appliances in the home consume a huge
amount of energy, but they don’t have to. If you’re in the market for a new
refrigerator, stove, washing machine or dryer, why not take the green approach
to household appliances? Not only are these appliances more energy efficient,
they are also made from sustainable materials and environmentally friendly
manufacturing techniques.
Anderson Balfour Kitchen Design Inc. promotes energy
efficient appliances for a greener home, but according to Andrea Balfour, award
winning Certified Kitchen Designer professional, you don’t need to give up
style to be green.
The kitchen design firm works closely with Euro-Line
Appliances Inc., who imports stylish and modern green appliances directly from
Europe. As a company, Liebherr has committed to making all appliances in North
America 100 per cent Energy Star® rated. European made Porter & Charles
appliances are energy efficient as well as RoHS compliant, which stands for the
Reduction of the use of Certain Hazardous Substances.
“RoHS means the manufacturer has eliminated the use
of mercury and lead during the manufacturing process and in the end product,”
explains Balfour.
The European manufacturer, AEG-Electrolux
has adopted a 360 degree approach to sustainable design, from the procurement
of raw materials, construction of appliances, and ultimately, the disposal of
the appliances once they have reached the end of their lifespan. The AEG-Electrolux dishwashers
are fantastic and clean a load of dishes using less water and detergent than washing
dishes by hand, says Balfour.
Faber’s green approach to building appliances
includes powering their factory with solar energy and they also recycle waste
water used in the manufacturing of appliances. Franke sinks have built-in
composters, and as a company, Franke has reduced the use of hazardous
chemicals, solvents and detergents in the manufacturing process by more than 30
per cent.
Purchasing a green appliance is an environmentally
conscientious decision, but Balfour says it’s also an investment in a quality
product.
“We want to offer our clients the very best. The
Euro-Line Appliances offer the best construction, the best quality, and the
best warranty programs in the business,” says Balfour. With more than 40 years of combined
expertise as kitchen and bath designers and renovation specialists, Andrea Balfour
and Brenda Anderson share a passion for design that has led them to a beautiful
partnership – Anderson Balfour Kitchen Design Inc.
