You may be surprised to learn that not all ice cream is
created equally. In fact, the amount of real cream or milk products used in
making ice cream will ultimately affect the quality of the cool treat. But not
to worry, at Old Firehall Confectionary in Unionville, only the best is served.
“We have quite a large selection of ice cream,” say Rob
Kadlovski of Old Firehall. Starting with premium Kawartha Dairy ice cream, they
use a stone slab, “which keeps the temperature of the ice cream constant so
it’s not melting, “ Kadlovski explains, “and then we can take whatever
ingredients you wish, from cookie dough to Smarties, you name it, and we just
mix it up.”
This delicious concoction can then be served in one of Old
Firehall’s homemade waffle cones or waffle bowls. “It all starts with the
waffle cones,” Kadlovski says, “the making of the waffle cone, the freshness
and the aroma that puts out.”
Recently, Old Firehall has begun a program in partnership
with Kawartha Dairy ice cream, where the Old Firehall product, in stone slab
format, can be packaged and taken home to enjoy. And stone slab creations can
also be taken home in a specially-made ice cream cake, which are also available
pre-made as well.
Kadlovski says it’s the combination of “the best quality ice
cream on earth” and great pastry chefs that make Old Firehall’s ice cream cakes
so spectacular, adding that they’re available all year long.
Also available “with the Kawartha ice cream,” Kadlovski says
is “soft ice cream, we have milkshakes, we have yogurt, we have dip ‘n dots,
which is a pro-biotic ice cream, and so there’s a little bit for everyone”.
In the search for even more interesting ice cream treats,
Kadlovski lets us in on a little insider information: “We’re working on
novelties,” he says, “everything from ice cream sandwiches to ice cream
cupcakes, and so on. It’s in the research and development stage right now, it
will be available shortly.”
