Making Families Feel at Home

By: Jane Muller

The homes in which we live need to accommodate not only our stuff but the way in which we live as well. Families that include children living at home have particular needs and that’s the lifestyle that Branthaven Homes built into its model home at Bronte Creek.

A modern family lifestyle is reflected in the generously proportioned homes designed by Branthaven Homes. Each model home is designed around a particular buyer from young professionals to empty nesters, according to Steve Stipsits of Branthaven Homes.

This family-friendly design is geared to a family of four that includes two working parents with a young son and daughter. The family has frequent overnight visits from extended family and friends. This means that the five-bedroom home includes a guest suite, master suite and bedrooms for each of the children, joined by a connected Jack and Jill bathroom. The fifth bedroom serves as a home gym.

“Flowing open space with a spacious kitchen open onto the family room area just seems to be the way people want to live these days,” explains Stipsits.

That is exactly what Branthaven has provided with this home, along with thoughtful placement of the dining room.

“The first thing your eye is drawn to is the formal dining room which is right out in the open … a great spot for it because it’s usually at room that’s in good shape as far as tidiness goes.”

The roomy foyer features a wide gallery to display artwork as well as a view into the formal dining room. Again, with the fictional family’s lifestyle in mind, there’s an area that Stipsits describes as “a little nook for parents to go to”. This space could serve as an office, den or a sitting area where parents can have a quiet cocktail after work.

A great family home needs a mudroom. Branthaven’s design places it inside the entry from the garage and combines it with laundry facilities. Stipsits calls this a “very useful room” that features a place for children to hang their backpacks, a place to sit that provides boot storage below and a spot to hang coats.

Stipsits says that the 2,915 square-foot home is “probably one of our best designs ever”.
