When Judith Finn began offering permanent hair removal back
in 1984, each hair was removed individually by electrolysis. It was a process
that had been around since 1875. With the advent of laser treatments, the
process has become much faster.
“When the laser came along it was wonderful news. We were
able to get over large areas very quickly,” Finn explains.
According to the director of the E.C.C. Cosmetic and Laser Centre
lasers work on colour, they won’t “see” blonde or white hair. Those hairs will
be removed by microscopic epilation. All
of the dermal therapists at her clinic are skilled in both laser and
electrolysis, treatments that will achieve permanent hair removal.
“There isn’t a hair we can’t remove in this clinic.” Finn
assures.
A skin analysis assisted by a microscope and television
screen, reveals the colour of the hair. A lot of people have a combination of
light and dark hair so both techniques will be used to ensure all of the hair
is removed.
For clients who are tired of shaving their legs, permanent
hair removal is a welcome solution. Treatments are scheduled every six weeks
for up to a year to deal with the cycles of new hair growth. In the end, the pores
shrink by up to 70 per cent, giving legs “a very smooth look”. Also, the skin
won’t dry out as it does after shaving. Finn is thrilled that she hasn’t had to shave
her legs for years. We also remove
unwanted hair on all other areas of the body.
You might think that women are the only clients who want to
have unwanted facial hair removed. That’s not the case, contends Finn, who
deals with men who have unwanted hair growing high on their cheeks, or on their
lower neck. Men also having hair removed from their back, ears and other areas
of the body in growing numbers.
