Amber Korobkina is a Bowen Technique convert. A practicing Bowen master, she was once a patient whose debilitating back pain was eliminated. She had tried other methods unsuccessfully and was looking at the prospect of back surgery when she heard about Bowen from a co-worker.
Now she operates four Let it Heal Bowen Therapy Clinics and is helping clients to live pain-free.
“It’s a little different from other methods. They just make the pain go away for the short term,” she explains. The Bowen Technique targets points on the muscles that stimulate nerve activity. The treatment is generally pain-free but if there is discomfort she’ll “back off”.
According to the Bowen practitioner, “It can be done quite gently with excellent results.”
The treatment involves rolling the thumbs or fingertips, pressing into the muscle and moving the skin. Patients remain fully clothed, a bonus for those who might otherwise feel uncomfortable. The non-invasive treatment causes most clients to fall asleep.
The Bowen Technique addresses back pain which can occur anywhere along the spine as well as the painful affects sciatica that can strike the back, buttocks and the leg, right down to the foot. The sciatic nerve is the target of the treatment.
For pregnant women often suffer from back pain, there’s a procedure that is called the pregnancy technique. She will even teach the “quick and easy manipulation” to dads who can provide relief to their wives between sessions at the clinic and also during labour. The results of the treatment will allow mom and dad both to get a good night’s sleep.
Back health can be a matter of mobility. Korobkina suggests that it’s important to keep moving and recommends a daily walk. Swimming is also recommended. Drinking plenty of fluids will keep white blood cells flowing and clear out any dead cells.
Back pain sufferers should seek treatment, advises Korobkina. “If you don’t get it looked after now, it just gets worse when you get older.”
Addressing the problem could help maintain healthy discs and prevent hunching over and the need to use a walker. Treatment of back pain will improve quality of life, something Korobkina has experienced first-hand.
