Mortgage brokers are matchmakers, pairing clients with the best possible mortgage.
“We’ll search the marketplace and provide the client with the best rates, terms and mortgage that suits the client’s needs,” says Gunther Kaschuba a mortgage broker with the Mortgage Centre. Clients served include first-time purchasers, resale purchasers, new home purchasers, and others who are refinancing debt.
Acting as a liaison between borrower and lender, mortgage brokers are independent, explains Kaschuba, and are not tied to any one financial institution. Meanwhile, as an agent of the various prospective lenders, the lender pays the broker’s fee. The client doesn’t have to run around shopping for a lender or work to the lender’s schedule. Kaschuba says a broker can visit clients at a convenient time and place, like at their own home and later in the evening when the kids are in bed.
Education is one of the key elements a broker can deliver, he explains. A well-informed client will end up feeling comfortable with their mortgage arrangement and be familiar with all aspects of the transaction. The client needs to understand what they are signing and that it’s a mortgage that best suits their employment and life situation, says the broker.
“One of the primary focuses I have is that the client understands the complete process – the terminology, different types of mortgages, how it impacts on their family situation, what’s important and what their needs are.”
