Deck your halls this season with these easy do-it-yourself holiday ornaments. According to Alicia Buter, product manager for Elmer’s Canada, you can make these festive ornaments and plant pokes with just a few supplies from your craft box. Chenille stems, pom poms, jiggly eyes, and foam can easily be transformed into festive crafts to decorate your home.
To make a snowman ornament, gather your supplies including a large Styrofoam ball, a chenille stem, and other craft materials to decorate the snowman. Twist the chenille stem to create the hanger and then glue it onto the Styrofoam ball using Elmer’s Tacky Glue. Make sure you let the glue dry before you move on to the next step says Buter. While you’re waiting for the glue to dry, Buter recommends getting your other pieces ready. Cut a carrot from a piece of orange foam for the nose. Using a piece of black foam, cut some small circles for the snowman’s mouth. Red pom poms can be used to make earmuffs and pink pom poms can be used for rosy cheeks and of course jiggly eyes. Assemble your snowman and glue into place using Elmer’s Tacky Glue.
To create some other festive ornaments, Buter recommends painting the Styrofoam ball, and then adding glitter foam and chenille to make an ornament that looks like Santa’s belt.
Another thing you can do, says Buter is to make a plant poke. Push a dowel rod into the bottom of the ornament and stick it into your houseplants to add some holiday décor.
