Model homes are designed to impress and to inspire homebuyers. Interior designer Colleen O’Hara, who creates the desirable designs found in Marz Homes models, including Southcote Woodlands, has some tips for homebuyers.
Décor choices should be guided by two principles – quality and classic, she suggests.
“You’ll love it for 10 years to come,” contends O’Hara.
Her selections for the model homes reflect her recommendations for purchasers looking for guidance. Install quartz and granite finishes and beautiful backsplashes. In terms of hardware, keep it contemporary.
She advises homebuyers to spend their money on good quality hardwood floors, sinks, taps, light fixtures and carpeting. Stay away from trends on these items but have some fun with flatware, tableware, throw pillows and drapery, accessories that are less costly and easy to change with the next trend.
The Marz Design Centre is the place to get expert help in choosing the finishes for the home, says O’Hara. The decorator suggests that the new homeowners bring with them photos of their furniture as well as pictures from magazines that reflect their taste.
The Southcote model O’Hara decorated reflects a family lifestyle, with open concept living geared to entertaining. She choose an earthy pallet that is “very welcoming” with its varied textures and finishes.
