After graduating with a political science degree, Jamie Fraser decided to teach overseas. His journey led him to Asia and South America, where he taught children of all ages. While teaching abroad, he was introduced to a different educational system than the standard system used in public schools in Canada. Not only do students enjoy classes during the day, they continue their day with supplemental education programs after school.

After returning to Canada, Fraser had the opportunity to purchase a Sylvan franchise. Having witnessed the success of a supplemental teaching model first hand, Fraser was very receptive to Sylvan’s teaching methodologies.

“I wouldn’t be involved in it if I didn’t think the system worked,” admits Fraser. “When some families come to Sylvan they’ve explored all other options and by the time they get to us, they’re really looking for something that works,” says Fraser, adding that the he loves building the relationships with the families and students that come to the centre. “To see them walk into the centre and then a few months later see the success of the children is very rewarding.”

As the executive director and owner of eleven Sylvan Learning Centre franchises, Fraser is responsible for the day to day operation of the company. Whether that’s hiring new managers, consulting with tutors and teachers, or purchasing state of the art programming for the centre, Fraser is very hands-on.
