When he married a sewer whose family ran a sewing business, Nick Kottelenberg didn’t see himself fitting into the pattern. He didn’t sew but he did appreciate his wife’s creative projects.

One of the first gifts his future wife Erika gave him was a thread-painting of a rose and a letter while they were dating long distance. He has always admired the things she made for herself and now for their three children and their home. Little did he know when he married Erika that he would eventually take over the family business.

He joined Sewing Machines Etcetera in 2007 as store manager, and the learning curve began. Since then, Kottelenberg accumulated a lot of knowledge about the sewing industry and the people and products that make it thrive. He’s even learned to sew, and occasionally surprises Erika with a little something like her new laptop cover from a pattern by Amy Butler.

In 2009, he and Erika purchased the family business. They are excited to take Sewing Machines Etcetera in new directions with classic and innovative classes, and by growing our on-line sewing community.

Though Kottelenberg spends most of his time in the office, if you see me around in the store, feel free to stop and talk... He offers this warning though – he loves to talk and tell stories.
