Many people’s lives have been affected by cancer,
which is why so many people understand the importance of community donations to
cancer research.
Having survived cancer himself, Kevin Larose of The Kevin
Larose Team at RE/MAX Realty Enterprises Inc. Brokerage in Port Credit, took
advantage of an opportunity to give back to the hospital that helped him battle
the disease with the “We Get You Giving,” fundraiser in support of the Princess
Margaret Hospital Foundation.
The event, held at the Art Trax Gallery and Warehouse in
Port Credit, saw some $20,000 raised in one night that featured a 1940s
jazz-themed cocktail party. In support of the fundraiser, many survivors joined
Larose on stage to share their stories of fear and triumph as they battled the
disease.
“You really can’t underestimate the importance of events
such as this,” Dr. John Waldron, Radiation Oncologist at Princess Margaret
Hospital, says of the fundraiser. “It is so important for the community to
support its local hospitals and also support research endeavours, whatever the
particular field of investigation is.”
With a raffle menu complete with such popular items as an
Apple iPad, Blackberry SmartPhone and Toronto Maple Leafs tickets, it’s no
wonder so much money was raised. But the big announcement of the night was that
The Kevin Larose Team has launched “We Get You Giving” as a foundation to
support local charities.
“When you’re touched with cancer you want to make a
difference,” Larose says of his motivation to host the event and to start the
charity. This act of giving is something that Larose and his team wants to be
part of their everyday lives.
